Italian Vogue's Controversial Oil-Spill Fashion Spread

Photographed by Steven Meisel
Model: Kristen McMenamy

"Thought-provoking or tasteless?" - Shine from Yahoo!

I am actually impressed on how Meisel used fashion to present this environmental ruins to the public. This is how fashion translated the tragedy, this is how fashion connect to the world's current events like this one. Kirsten is looking like a bird trapped in oil, with the use of nets and feathers, Meisel created a vision of an effect of this catastrophe.

Kudos to Mr. Meisel and Ms. McMenamy, they did a job well done in projecting this disaster into a glamorous way, I guess?

These photos are really disturbing though.

Well, I have to admit, the Vogue vibes are still there, fiercely photos and this top model aura of Kristen. One thing's for sure, everyone is concerned in saving our planet Earth, and YES, even the FASHION industry.

the editorials seem to try to look glamourous, but i find them rather disturbing esp the black and white one. i understand how they're trying to make us more aware of the oil spills and their effects on the natural habitat and animal food chain, but i think it should be done in a more "proper way"

I'm a fan of the editorial. It is thought provoking and amazingly artistic and well thought out. It's great to see Vogue Italia pushing the envelope once again!
